Hey there! My name is Niki 🙂
I am an award-winning travel and landscape photographer. My work has been featured by Bustle, AFAR, and Nikon Australia. I’ve also partnered with brands like Beaches Resorts, the Peabody Hotel, and Sun Country Airlines.
My first camera was a Barbie film camera in the late 90s when I was barely in elementary school. I took pictures of just about everything.
I got my first taste of digital photography in the mid-2000s when I picked up Mom’s new digital camera. At the time we lived in rural Michigan with trees everywhere and some of my favorite things to photography were those trees changing colors in the fall.
Growing up I went through cameras (and iPods) like water. I had at least four different cameras before finally getting my first DSLR, a Nikon D3300, before a spontaneous weekend trip to Yellowstone. For years, my camera was the only travel companion I could count on consistently and we traveled the world together. From living in Berlin one summer to exploring the American Southwest and plenty of places in between.
While I was in college, I took a photography class as a fun class. One fun semester turned into four and I graduated with a minor in photography. My primary focus was 35mm black and white film and I cannot wait for the day when I can have access to a darkroom again.
Nowadays I tote a hefty camera kit around with me on my adventures and I joke with my friends I take more camera gear than clothes on my trips.
In addition to photography, I run a successful travel blog called Chasing Departures and a successful dog blog called Love Newfoundlands.
